Abstract: tDiatoms are ideal for nanotechnology with their unique and versatile silica porous shell. This paper summarized the recent research progress of diatom nanomaterials, mainly on the application of diatom nanomaterials for the manufacture of environmentally friendly fuel devices, solar cell electrodes, biosensors, synthetic metal nanoparticles, and preparation of drug transport carriers. Scientists are also deepening their understanding of the molecular mechanisms of diatom biomineralization, and it is expected that genetic engineering will bring a wider applications for diatom nanomaterials.
