Abstract: Chironomidae is a kind of diptera insects, which exists in each big animal′s geographical area. The research of Chironomidae is not only associated with the global development of water environmental protection, but also related to the scientific research and production practice of aquaculture. At the same time, some species can carry pathogens that cause allergic reactions such as rhinitis and asthma. Mongolia is located in the east part of the Palaearctic Region, its classification research foundation is poor and no taxonomic study of the animal. After nearly 40 years of research and development and according to complete statistic, Mongolian Chironomidae has recorded 269 species, belonging to 6 subfamilies. This paper made a review on the history and recent progress in the study of Mongolian chironomidae and provided the latest list in order to provide data for taxonomic research
