Abstract: Scombridae fishes, as economically important marine species, are abundant sources of food proteins. Their comprehensive utilization rate, however, is still at a low level. Bioactive peptides with various biological activities such as antioxidation, anti-hypertension, immunization and antibacterial prepared by enzymatic hydrolysis is an efficient way for higher added-value of Scombridae fishes. This paper reviewed the conditions of enzymatic hydrolysis of Scombridae proteins, the approaches for purification and identification as well as the primary physiological functions of Scombridae peptides. Furthermore, the problems and corresponding countermeasures were discussed and potential applications of bioactive peptides from hydrolysates of Scombridae fishes were summarized.
