Abstract: To explore the alleviated effect of oleic acid on acute cadmium poisoning in mice and its mechanism, 105 SPF Kunming mice were used for acute cadmium toxicity and residue testing. The acute cadmium poisoning mice were orally administered of different doses of oleic acid (10, 15 and 20 mg/kg per day) by 7-day continuously gavage, after then the changes of body weight, liver/kidney index and their cadmium residue were tested, to compare the alleviated effect of oleic acid and vitamin C, a routine antidote, on acute cadmium poisoning of mice. Comparing to vitamin C, 15 and 20 mg/kg·d of oleic acid can more significantly alleviate the body weight loss caused by cadmium exposure. Comparing to significant reduction of liver index by vitamin C, the reduction of liver and kidney index by the oleic acid is not significant. More important, oleic acid significantly reduced the cadmium residue in liver and kidney tissue. The result suggests that compared to vitamin C, the oleic acid can more significantly alleviate the acute cadmium poisoning through efficiently reducing the accumulation of cadmium in liver and kidney in mice.
