马关古林箐蜂猴和倭蜂猴同域分布与高海拔适应性

Sympatric distribution and high-altitude adaptability of Nycticebus bengalensis and Xanthonycticebus intermedius in the Maguan Gulinqing area

摘要: 蜂猴与倭蜂猴分别为我国濒危和极度濒危的夜行性灵长类动物,受限于其隐蔽的生态习性,二者的空间分布格局与共存关系长期缺乏实证数据,本研究在云南马关古林箐省级自然保护区利用红外相机技术开展监测,旨在获得二者同域共存的影像证据。监测结果显示,两物种均被成功拍摄,且最近记录点位间的直线距离仅约110 m,确证该区域为二者同域分布区。倭蜂猴的拍摄率与记录频次显著高于蜂猴,表现出绝对的种群数量优势,暗示了潜在的种间竞争与生态位分化。尤为重要的是,本研究记录到倭蜂猴在海拔1600~1700 m区域的高频活动,突破了其分布于低海拔(<500 m)雨林的传统认知,暗示该物种可能凭借低代谢率、异温性调节等生理可塑性,具备适应高海拔低温环境的潜力。在方法学上,树冠层布设与彩色视频记录有效克服了夜行性小型灵长类监测的盲区与识别难题。基于研究结果,建议保护区实施针对高海拔关键生境的保护,维护林冠连通性,以促进该区域极度濒危灵长类动物的种群恢复。

Abstract: The Bengal Slow Loris (Nycticebus bengalensis) and the Northern Pygmy Loris (Xanthonycticebus intermedius) are respectively endangered and critically endangered nocturnal primates in China. Owing to their cryptic ecological habits, empirical data on their spatial distribution and coexistence patterns in the wild have long been insufficient. Using camera-trapping technology, this study conducted camera-trap monitoring in the Maguan Gulinqing Provincial Nature Reserve, Yunnan Province, aiming to obtain video evidence of their sympatric coexistence. The monitoring results confirmed that both species were successfully detected, with the nearest effective recording sites approximately 110 m apart in straight-line distance, confirming this area as a sympatric zone for the two species. The Northern Pygmy Loris exhibited a significantly higher trap rate and recording frequency than the Bengal Slow Loris, demonstrating an absolute numerical dominance, implying potential interspecific competition and niche differentiation. Notably, frequent activities of the Northern Pygmy Loris were recorded at elevations of approximately 1600-1700 m, challenging the traditional paradigm that this species is restricted to low-altitude rainforests below 500 m. This suggested that the species might possess the potential to adapt to cold, high-altitude environments by virtue of physiological plasticity, such as a low metabolic rate and heterothermy. Methodologically, canopy-level camera placement and color video recording effectively overcame the monitoring blind spots and identification difficulties associated with nocturnal small primates. Based on these findings, it is recommended that conservation efforts focus on key high-altitude habitats and maintain canopy connectivity to facilitate the population recovery of these threatened primates.
