Abstract: The basic properties of Wangjiaao Sulfur-Iron tailings near Chaohu, Hefei China, were analyzed through laboratory simulation of static/dynamic leaching experiment, simulated rainfall, temperature and rainfall acidity conditions. The influential factors of Sulfur-Iron tailingst ecological environment (heavy metals and acid waste water) were assayed. The results showed that concentrations of Cu, Cr, Cd, Mn, Zn, As and Pb were 9.40, 9.59, 0.04, 78.28,9.19, 22.56, 63.68 mg/kg, respectively. Tailing was mainly present in residual and oxidable fraction, followed by acid exchangeable and reducible. The impact on the ecological environment followed the order of Zn>As>Cu >Cd>Mn>Cr>Pb. The NAG and NAPP values were H2SO4 203.84 kg·t-1 and 86.79 kg·t-1, the results indicated that the tailings had high acid forming potential. Leaching experiments results indicated that under the condition of rainfall concentration, acid rain and high temperature were advantageous to the dissolution of heavy metals and acid waste water. The contaminants in the tailings had great influence on surrounding ecological environment.
