The research progress in the function and regulation of STAYGREEN in crops

摘要: STAYGREEN(SGR)/ NON-YELLOWING(NYE)基因是一种编码叶片衰老相关蛋白的基因,该基因对叶绿素降解至关重要。许多植物的SGR基因突变体都会产生持绿表型,但不同SGR的功能有所差异。综述了SGR的功能、SGR与叶绿素代谢、SGR的调控3个方面的最新研究进展,并展望了SGR在中国主要粮食作物中的研究方向。

Abstract: STAYGREEN(SGR)/ NON-YELLOWING(NYE)gene encods a leaf senescence related protein, which plays an essential role in chlorophyll breakdown. Mutants of the SGR gene exhibit stay-green phenotype in many plants, however, the functions of different SGRs are variant. In this article, the latest research findings of SGR were reviewed from three aspects, including the function of SGR, the relationship between SGR and chlorophyll degradation, and the regulation of SGR. Meanwhile, the research direction of SGR in main grain crops in China was prospected.
